Asking which is the best electric guitar is always going to be a matter of subjectivity and preference. With a near-infinite amount of styles and varieties to choose from, everyone has their own road to take when it comes to finding the instrument that is right for them.
At Fusion Guitars, we have spent years trying to create the ultimate smart guitar, fusing seamless iPhone integration and a high-quality built-in amplifier into a performance-grade guitar that is perfect for practically any playing style. So, how does the Fusion Guitar compare to its more traditional electric counterparts?
Setup
Even the best electric guitar on the market can’t really do too much without the equipment to go with it. To achieve your ideal sound, you’ll need an amplifier, leads, cables, and effects pedals. This plethora of required tech can quickly add up, both in price and the amount of space that it takes up, and that’s not even getting into the mess and clutter that comes with having an overabundance of cables spread throughout your performance space.
At Fusion Guitars, we strove to eliminate the need for all of these extra additions, creating an all-in-one guitar that can be played on its own. No cords, no bulky amps, just a simple, streamlined guitar that will provide you with all of the sounds you need straight from the comfort of your smartphone.
Effects
Finding the best electric guitar tone and sound for your music takes a lot of experimentation, and that means spending a lot of money buying different pedals. A high-quality pedal can cost upwards of $200, and if it can’t produce the sound you need, it either means going back to the store and trying again or settling with what you’ve got.
Thanks to the Fusion Guitar’s iPhone-integration capabilities, you have practically any effect you could need at the touch of a screen, all for the low price of absolutely free. The Fusion Guitar works with all major music apps, including Garageband, meaning you have an enormous selection of customisable sounds and tones to choose from without having to buy a thing.
Transportation
Unless you happen to be playing an unamplified acoustic guitar, the amount of cumbersome tech and electrical equipment that you need to cart with you for even the smallest of performances can be overwhelming. From mixing consoles to effects to speakers, so many things have to come together before you can even play a note. Plus, those who don’t have access to reliable transportation are essentially out of luck.
As an all-in-one setup, the Fusion Guitar is essentially the best electric guitar for guitarists on-the-go. No more lugging amps or having to deal with faulty wiring moments before a performance, the Fusion Guitar allows you to simply switch on your instrument and play to your heart’s content.

Today, we’re going to take a look at why playing music together is the perfect way to experience Christmas this holiday season.
Sitting around the Christmas tree with a Fusion guitar and a few close friends and relatives is an experience that feels deeply resonant, and that’s because it is. New studies have found that the human brain has certain areas that are dedicated to enjoying and understanding music. Similar studies have also found that music supports and enhances social bonds, which is likely why we have so many musical associations when it comes to big events like Christmas and sports finals.
There’s a special connection that comes with performing music alongside others. People are built to coordinate and collaborate, so when we do decide to sync our brainwaves and come together in that way, our brains are flooded with endorphins. Playing music together makes us feel safe and connected to those around us (here’s another rather dry study if you want proof of that).
With the Fusion guitar, you can play wherever and whenever the mood takes you, allowing you to create and collaborate with other musicians any time the chance arises. Plus, unlike traditional electric guitars, the Fusion guitar doesn’t require a bunch of wires and speakers to be strewn across your living room when you want to play.
An enormous part of the Christmas spirit is trying to understand and empathise with the people you love, and what better way to do that than with music? Music helps us to understand the thoughts and emotions of others, whilst also allowing us to more accurately predict their behaviour. Music is a connection, a gateway into understanding others, and that’s something a lot of people really need during the holidays.
It’s the Perfect Gift
Music is something we all share; a force that is built into our very nature as human beings, and the sharing of music is something everyone can enjoy. Whether that means performing for/with friends & family, or even buying someone their very own Fusion guitar, providing someone you care about with the gift of music is a present that can last a lifetime.

]]>For those that have been thinking about picking up a guitar for the first time, or those who simply want to brush up on their skills, let’s take a quick look at what makes Ultimate Guitar Pro such a unique and versatile app.
Since 1998, any guitarist that has taken it upon themselves to hunt the internet for tabs and chords has inevitably stumbled across Ultimate Guitar at one point or another. As the internet’s leading resource for guitar tabs, it provides guitarists, as well as bassists, pianists, ukulele players, etc. with the tools they need to learn and develop their skills.
With that said, one of Ultimate Guitar’s most defining features has always been power tabs, which offer a more interactive approach to learning by allowing users to hear and manipulate the areas they’re struggling with. This is the functionality that was expanded on and improved as Ultimate Guitar Pro was developed.
With over 250,000 interactive tabs, Ultimate Guitar Pro really lives up to its name, especially when paired with the Fusion Guitar. The app’s playback function allows you to hear what you are playing as you’re playing it, and that includes far more than just guitar parts. The layout of each song is reminiscent of a recording interface, with each instrument in the song separated, providing you with the ability to mute parts, change levels, slow areas down, and really dig into what makes the composition work.
As you may have guessed, this means that Ultimate Guitar Pro isn’t just for learning guitar, and can be used to develop your skills with other instruments too. However, for those that are looking to pair the app with their Fusion Guitar, the ease and control offered by real-time playback works seamlessly with the Fusion built-in speaker system. This means that Ultimate Guitar Pro can also be used as a backing track as you learn and develop your sound.
Smartphones have allowed musicians a wide array of platforms and tools to support their learning journey. For those that are looking for a way to seamlessly integrate the power of their iPhone into their playing, check out the Fusion Guitar today. Alternatively, if you’d like to learn more, then feel free to visit our FAQ for more information.
]]>However, with all of this freedom to play and experiment, where do you start? Today, we’re going to go into a few of our favourite guitar apps that work seamlessly with the Fusion Guitar. So, without further adieu, let’s get into our guide to guitar apps!
If you’re reading a guide to guitar apps, we can assume that you’re looking for apps that will specifically provide you with an excellent guitar experience. If so, then JamUp Pro is the app for you. While not offering the synthesisers and beat-making capabilities of apps like GarageBand, JamUp Pro is a perfect option for those that just want an excellent array of guitar tones and pedals.
Lauded for its faithfulness to its real-world amp and pedal equivalents, there are few programs that can match JamUp Pro in regards to tone authenticity. Plus, the wide selection of amps and pedals, as well as a lot of room for customisation, gives you the power to build complex, unique sounds right from your smartphone. The app also provides you with an 8-track recorder and looping sampler, so if you want to record demos and scratch tracks, you can do so right from the app. This, coupled with its live mode and latency-free playing, makes JamUp Pro a must-have for guitarists on the go, especially if you’re playing with the Fusion Guitar.
One of the under-appreciated benefits of having a guitar setup in your pocket at all times is that it makes practising much more convenient. If you’re someone who is new to guitar, or are just looking for an easy way to stay brushed up on the fundamentals, AnyTune Pro + is a great choice. This app is fantastic for playing along with songs, allowing you to slow down sections and pick out single notes to really break down the learning process. Better yet, AnyTune Pro + enables you to play with your own music, and can also seamlessly sync with iTunes. It may not have the amps and pedals of JamUp Pro, but if you just want to perfect your covers and pick up some new guitar skills along the way, this currently-free app is invaluable.
Those that have dabbled with music production may recognise the name AmpliTube. This is because it has been used for quite some time as a powerful guitar and bass tone studio for Mac and PC, offering seamless integration with a variety of well-known DAWs. I bring this up to show that AmpliTube has a proven track record of hyper-realistic, customisable guitar tones, and the fact that this is now available as a smartphone app is very exciting.
Users can customise their virtual amp to an almost ridiculous degree, with options spanning from virtual microphone positioning to changing each individual speaker. This is an excellent choice for guitarists that have a very specific idea in mind of how they want things to sound, and while many of the options available will be irrelevant for most casual players, that doesn’t make them any less fun to play with.

This is a very brief guide to guitar apps, and there are a number of great picks that we can’t get to here. For more Fusion-approved guitar apps, you can check out our Apps page. For those that are looking to get the most out of their Fusion guitar, knowing how to create a song on GarageBand for iPhone will be absolutely invaluable. More than simply a way to customise and create fantastic guitar tones (you can read our breakdown of live guitar sounds here), GarageBand allows musicians to build, layer, and loop their own tracks with a wide selection of built-in sounds and virtual instruments. The number of choices available can be a little overwhelming at first, with an array of bass, keyboard, guitar, synthesiser, and drum sounds to choose from when crafting your backing tracks.
So, whether you’re a seasoned composer looking to brush up with some pocket-sized production or a first-time guitarist looking to practice some grooves, let’s take a quick look at how easy it can be to make a song on GarageBand for iPhone.
Most backing tracks are going to need a good rhythm to keep your groove and timing in check. Luckily, GarageBand provides you with several options for piecing together percussive accompaniment, each with its own benefits:
Also referred to as Acoustic Drums, this is the method that most people who have had a go with GarageBand iOS will be familiar with. With Touch Drums, you’re provided with a visual representation of a drum kit, which then allows you to play your desired beat in real-time using your fingers.
The benefit of Touch Drums over other options is that you are free to create whatever beat you want, no matter how strange or complicated. For those that have a good sense of rhythm, it can be a fantastic way to ensure that each part of your backing track is wholly unique. However, this does also bring with it some downsides.
For those that have little experience with percussion and keeping time, creating a consistent groove is going to be a difficult, occasionally frustrating experience. Even for those that do have experience with drumming or percussion, the small screen makes it hard to be precise with your tapping.
The Smart Drums option, as the name suggests, automatically generates a drumbeat that can then be customised and made to fit in perfectly with your beat or song. While it doesn’t have the same level of true freedom as touch drums, the simple controls combined with an easy drag, drop and swipe editing system makes this an absolutely fantastic addition to the app.
To create your beat, simply drag and drop the various drums and percussion instruments you wish to include. Then, you can start to fine-tune your beat in the form of a square scale. The four sides of the square are labelled “Simple, Complex, Quiet and Loud”. The beat’s characteristics will be based on where you place your marker on this scale.
While a written description of this system can seem a little confusing, the process itself is incredibly simple.
Finally, last but not least, we have the Beat Sequencer. This is a simple, programmable digital drum machine based on a grid system. Tap on a square to activate that sound at that point in the sequence, it’s as simple as that. The Beat Sequencer is a middle ground between the customisation of Touch Drums and the effortlessness of Smart Drums and is perfect for those that need a simple, unchanging beat.
While having a solid drum beat is fantastic, there’s a lot more that goes into knowing how to make a song on GarageBand for iPhone. So, select “Tracks” when opening a brand new project and you’ll be greeted by a scrolling screen of options to play with. From pianos to traditional Japanese string instruments, there are a plethora of virtual instruments for you to explore when creating your backing track’s melodies. These tend to come in two forms:
For most of your keyboard, piano and synthesiser sounds, you’ll be provided with a visual representation of piano keys to experiment with. From here, each different plugin/preset/instrument that you choose will have different customisation options. You can also change the key in which your playing, add master effects such as reverb and echo, and add an arpeggiator (to play the individual notes of a chord) which can then be customised further.
This is where you’ll find string instruments, such as guitars and basses, which will be laid out to represent a fretboard. From here, you have many of the same features as live guitars, including pedalboard customisation and tone alteration. Virtual guitars can be used to create chords or single notes, and allow for real-time bends and slides for added authenticity. They can be set to a specific key, which is great if you have limited musical theory.
Learning how to make a song on GarageBand for iPhone will provide you with a near-limitless playground for customisation and creativity. ]]>Knowing how to use GarageBand for iPhone is a gateway to a world of musical possibilities. From drum synthesisers that allow you to create your own beats, to the live audio and digital effects boards that work seamlessly with your Fusion Guitar, GarageBand is a simple, all-in-one platform that makes a perfect introduction point for anyone looking to produce music.
With that said, although this app will feel very familiar to anyone that has used production software in the past, the wealth of options can make it a little difficult to get up and running for newcomers. So, to help you unlock the true musical potential of your iPhone here’s a quick guide on how to use GarageBand to play and record guitar.
For those that have bought a Fusion Guitar, or are thinking of doing so in the future, this will be the primary benefit of GarageBand for performing. GarageBand offers latency-free live audio, meaning that you have a wide range of digital pedals, amps, and audio tweaking options at your disposal for both playing and recording guitar.
On the amp side of things, we have a wide array of options to choose from based on your preferences and playing style, everything from jazzy clean to high gain metal.
Tweed Combos - Based in the American combo amplifiers of the 50s and 60s, these sounds defined the sonic identity of blues and country-rock. Ranging from warm, clean tones to grinding distortion, the tweed combo amps are perfect for bluesier, rootsier guitarists.
Classic American Combos - Similar to the tweed combo amp, but with a stronger focus on tight, low-end sounds and note definition, the classic American combo offers a cleaner distortion that is perfect for surf rock, jazz, or even R&B.
Metal Stacks - As the name suggests, the metal stacks are high-gain, high-power amps that are the first-choice for saturated metal distortion. While you’re not going to get the smooth, clean tones of the classic American combos, with sounds ranging from “crunch” to “extreme overdrive”, they are the best option for anyone that wants to make their guitar scream in anguish.
The British Options - From the perspective of range, British amps take the top spot on GarageBand iOS. With British stacks bringing thick chords perfect for classic rock and early metal, British combos providing a more mellow, pop-ready sound, and British alternative allowing for a more aggressive “Britpop-esque” sonic selection, there are many chances for experimentation in this versatile range.
All of these amplifier plugins have the full range of traditional controls and can be altered and experimented with, so those learning how to use GarageBand for iPhone for the first time have a lot to be excited about. With that said, a more direct method of altering your guitar’s sound is, of course, the pedalboard.
One of the greatest selling points of GarageBand iOS when I first picked it up was that not only could you place several effects pedals on your guitar, you could also choose the order in which they were placed. While this may not seem important for those just starting out, the positions of your pedals in the chain will completely change your sound.
For example, say you have a fuzz pedal and a delay pedal connected and ready to go. Placing the fuzz pedal before the delay pedal will mean that your guitar is being distorted, then that distorted guitar tone is being delayed. This will likely lead to a much cleaner tone than the alternative of a delayed guitar being distorted and will provide you with significantly less feedback.
This is the joy of versatility and customisation, as GarageBand for iPhone allows you to do anything you like with the tools provided. Each pedal will come with further customisation in the form of virtual knobs and buttons to change the effect of that specific pedal. For those that would like to experiment with their guitar setup, but aren’t in a position to buy an abundance of pedals to try out, this is a great starting point.
Utilising the Fusion Guitar’s smartphone integration and built-in speaker will also allow you to seamlessly test out these sounds in a live context. Simply turn on the guitar, attach your iPhone, choose your pedals and go!

What I mean is, finding that awesome sound can take more than an hour; dusting off the old pedal board, setting up the amp, tuning your guitar up, tweaking the feedback levels, dealing with hiss and adjusting noise gates.
We’ve all been there - Setting up to play guitar can take so much time that we don’t have…. That’s why we designed the Fusion from the ground up with tone as our #1 priority.
So, Let’s dive into how we did it.
First off we looked at body construction. Did you know that the Fusion’s neck is also its body? It’s a straight through construction, allowing for all of that natural resonation and tone to be uninterrupted.
When we looked at the pickups, we asked the question - how can we capture all this natural tone? With versatility in mind, we decided to provide two awesome noise cancelling humbuckers, with a split coil switch on the hotrail, giving you both the screaming, sharp and jangly tone of a strat, while also providing the fullness and depth of an SG or Les Paul.
See Paul Riario from Ultimate Guitar put the Fusion through its paces.
But the real breakthrough for us was the Fusion’s 20 watt and high output speaker setup. We’ve pushed the limits by integrating a US designed ultra-efficient 20 Watt Class-D amplifier module with low noise (-90dB) and low distortion (THD+N = 0.1%) with two Tymphany Peerless full range speakers coupled and one high frequency tweeter.
We then added a breakthrough system to isolate vibration and feedback between the pickups and speakers while retaining the true tone of the guitar.
But where the Fusion is really set apart is the super realistic digital effects delivered by the world’s best guitar apps.
Check out how realistic guitar amp and effects simulations can be with this AmpliTube comparison video.

Dude... Where's Your Gear? from Fusion Guitars
]]>
Rock on!
]]>We're kicking off our series with an early crowdfunding supporter, professional musician and a guitarist of over 48 years, David Hinds.
David was inspired from an early age to play the electric guitar from 70s era blues and rock 'n' roll, yet it wasn't until Dave heard Eric Clapton's Solo in Crossroads - Live at the Fillmore that he had his "wow' moment and was moved to play the electric. Never hearing anything like it before, David remembers saying at the time "This is what I want to do, I want to play electric guitar for the rest of my life."
David has never looked back, dedicating his life to playing blues and classic rock with a career spanning decades touring and playing with bands such as the 70s band Finch and more recently playing alongside his wife Lyn in the Bounty Hunters. With recording music professionally, David has enjoyed a successful career spanning over 48 years, a number of albums and a huge variety of guitars that he has never put down!
Dave has loved his vintage gear, owning a variety of Fender, early Gibsons and custom build guitars. When he met the Fusion Guitar he was immediately interested in the wide variety of digital effects that the Fusion takes advantage of and joined our crowd funding campaign.
He loves how the Fusion combines everything you would expect out of a traditional electric guitar and builds innovation out of this aspect, resulting in what he calls "a great innovation of the evolution of the Electric Guitar." Now recently receiving his first Fusion, David says that it really delivers, mentioning that "today's guitar players have so many options available to them in the digital world." Dave also comments that a lot of guitarists are not able to explore new methods, genres or styles because of the limitations of their hardware, and is excited about the Fusion as it provides instant access to new effects and tones for guitarists to really explore and find their style. The Fusion really harnesses the power of apps like Amplitube in one package offering guitarists the ability to jam and explore on the go like never before.
Dave is still touring with the Bounty Hunters, and because of this, he has a lot of downtime in hotels, the tour van and between gigs. Dave can't wait to take the Fusion with him for when he tours next, saying that "a lot of the time we're coming up with new stuff during our travels, the Fusion will allow me to record these moments quickly, jam with the band and give me the freedom to explore my style wherever I am."
Dave says that the Fusion is now "worth the wait" and he can't wait to write his next big hit on the road!

]]>Let's start with downloading your first guitar app. In this guide, we use JamUp by Positive Grid as an example of a guitar app you can download.
Your Fusion Guitar is the first of its kind and has a unique integration of classic amps and stompbox effects, on-board amp, powerful speakers, and traditional guitar hardware. Follow this quick and easy guide for downloading and optimizing your first guitar app - Jamup Pro to get the best out of your Fusion Guitar from first play!
Get Started With Your Rig
Like any traditional guitar setup, it can take some tweaking to get the tones you want and avoid the ones you don't. In this guide, we'll take you through the first steps your virtual rig setup.
We are using JamUp by Positive Grid as an example for setting up your effects and amps, however, what you will learn in this guide can be used with a variety of guitar apps to reduce feedback and adjust your tone! These principles can also be applied to Bias Amp 2, Amplitube, ToneStack or AmpKit for example.
Launch JamUp Pro and select any guitar rig preset. In JamUp you can select, create and save your very own rig of guitar pedals and amp, with unlimited combinations to perfect your tone!
If you experience any unwanted feedback we recommend using a Noise gate (NG) pedal and a Filter (FILT) pedal in your rig. You can find these pedals in Jamup Pro and they usually come pre-selected in standard presets in the app.
To find these pedals if they are not already included in a preset, double tap any pedal in your rig. Select a Noise Gate or EQ4 Filter tab, and select the pedal you want. You can easily switch out any pedal in your rig using this method.
